BlackRock lifts stake in Brazilian retailer Lojas Renner above 10%
BlackRock has increased its direct holding in Brazilian fashion giant Lojas Renner to over 10%, signaling institutional confidence despite retail headwinds.

Global asset managers are continuing to hunt for value in emerging market consumer brands, even as local macroeconomic pressures weigh on near-term growth. In a move that underscores institutional appetite for Latin America's largest economy, the world's largest asset manager is expanding its footprint in Brazil's premier fashion retail sector.
On October 22, 2026, Brazilian apparel giant Lojas Renner announced that New York-based BlackRock increased its direct holding in the company to 101,573,795 common shares. The transaction raises BlackRock's equity stake to approximately 10.088% of the retailer's total common shares. Alongside the physical shares, BlackRock holds cash-settled financial derivative instruments representing an additional 1.364% of Lojas Renner's common equity.
According to the official regulatory filing sent by BlackRock to the retailer, the acquisition is strictly for investment purposes. The asset manager stated that the transaction does not aim to alter the administrative or control structure of the Porto Alegre-based company.
The move comes at a transition point for the Brazilian consumer discretionary sector. In August 2026, Lojas Renner reported a stable second-quarter net income of 404.6 million Brazilian reais, but simultaneously revised its full-year net revenue growth guidance downward from an initial 9% to 13% range to a more conservative 4% to 8%. Management cited a highly promotional environment, volatile weather patterns, and intense competition from cross-border e-commerce platforms as the primary reasons for the adjustment.
Despite these headwinds, institutional investors are looking past short-term volatility toward structural recovery. Analysts at XP Investimentos noted in October 2026 that while revenue growth remains under pressure, gross margins in the Brazilian apparel sector are proving resilient, with operational execution expected to drive profitability gains heading into 2027. BlackRock’s increased exposure reflects a calculation that the retailer’s dominant market position and robust distribution network remain undervalued.
